God’s promise
Some say rainbows
Are God’s promise
Not to drown us
Again
Like a litter
of unwanted kittens.
Scientists say rainbows
Are light refracted.
Children say rainbows
Are magic arcs.
Some say Irish
throw in a pot of gold,
but my Irish friends
say “Jaysus wept”
at such tomfoolery.
I say rainbows
are reminders
of the invisible world.
Of the darkness made light,
of the mystery
of life.
ROY G. BIV,
I salute you.
